Homemade Fresh Pasta

No Comments 17 April 2013

Last week we cleared some space in Local Root, and got to work cooking up a storm. From time to time, I’ll leaf through our stock of cookbooks and pick out a few recipes that catch my eye, then we’ll make and photograph them for blog use (and often tasty afternoon snacks!). We recently acquired enough tools to host our cooking days right in the store, and it’s definitely been a lot of fun.

Easter Recipe Round-Up

No Comments 28 March 2013

We published a spring recipe round-up a couple of weeks ago, and it was so popular we thought we’d do it again! I peruse far too many blogs on a daily basis, and bookmark thousands of recipes for future cooking/baking projects, so it’s a lot of fun for me to curate a shortlist of some of the best to share with you!

Easter is right around the corner, so in case you haven’t figured out what you’re making for the holiday, these recipes can provide some guidance and inspiration. Not celebrating Easter? No worries! Most of these  recipes double as seasonal spring recipes too :)

Pressure Cooker Fun

No Comments 23 March 2013

Last week, we decided to have some fun in the Local Root store. We’ve been wanting to install our own test kitchen, but lack of space has prevented it – so the store manager did the only thing he could think to do: he went out and bought a portable induction burner!

The first project we decided to tackle with the new burner was testing a pressure cooker from our Kuhn Rikon line. We started carrying this line a couple of months ago, but hadn’t given them a try ourselves, so we gave one a go with a recipe from one of our cookbooks, Modernist Cuisine.

Spring Recipe Round-Up

No Comments 18 March 2013

Given that the first day of spring is a mere two days away, we figured it was about time to get some recipe inspiration out there. While the weather in our neck of the woods isn’t exactly balmy, it’s nice to start thinking of these spring-inspired recipes, so when the weather finally does come around, you’ll be armed and ready with some delicious eats.

This compilation is completely random, and simply contains some delicious recipes we found from looking around the web – and one or two of our own :) Feel free to take a look around, and share your favorite spring recipes with us too!

Mushroom, Millet and Leek Frittatas
A wonderful option for breakfast, lunch or dinner, these frittatas are loaded with flavor. Plus, this particular recipe is prepared using muffin tins, making portable, individual-sized portions. Who doesn’t love that?!
