Dinner 21: A Strawberry Summer

Today is an exciting day here on Dinner Series — we have a new Dinner Series event post to share! This is a particularly special Dinner Series, because it was the first one I ever got to take part in. I haven’t formally introduced myself, but my name is Taryn and I am the (new) voice behind Dinner Series. I started writing for this blog a couple of months ago, but this was my first Dinner Series so it seemed the appropriate time to introduce myself to you.

I was fortunate enough not only to attend this event, but to cook all of the food for it – and what a smashing success it was! I’ll recap the event and the recipes over a series of separate posts, but today I’ll be sharing an overview of the stunning setting and the delicious menu.

For Dinner 20, we left the cooking to a professional (you can see the complete menu here), letting us concentrate on assembling a beautiful summer table setting at our friend Marshall’s craftsman bungalow. We went tableclothless, exposing the veneered mahogany grain of Marhsall’s table, on which chamomile Chilewich Bamboo placemats set off the rich color of the wood with a bright pop of summery exuberance. Salad Days Table Setting Is Green and sophisticated

The table setting for Salad Days reflect the tongue-in-cheek, ironic intentions behind the theme: literal and opposite and nostalgic. The main color palette Melissa chose was green for the literal interpretation of salad days while the sophistication of the items and their combination of the opposite of what I could ever have expected during my salad days.

Like Homer’s beer, The Cure, isn’t actually a permanent fix for anything. But let’s focus more on the “solution” rather than the “temporary.” Because while a great cocktail lasts, it’s pretty fantastic. It does seem to solve (or dissolve) things, like your worries, a foul mood, the bleak outlook of the days and years ahead, the meaninglessness of work, relationships, life…. Bartender!
