Local Root Turns One!

Last Thursday, we celebrated the 1 year anniversary of Local Root’s opening, and what a year it has been! During the first 12 months, Local Root  has become a real destination for all things cooking – kitchen utensils, cookware and bakeware of the highest quality. We were excited to celebrate not only their first year in business, but also many more prosperous ones to come.

Hi-Rise Spring Dinner Series: The Table

This past weekend, we had the pleasure of hosting a Dinner Series event at Hi-Rise Bread Company. Their team cleared out the bakery, and we had a lovely entertaining space at our disposal. Rene, the owner and chef at Hi-Rise, planned and prepared the menu, and guests were invited to enjoy an evening of delicious good, plentiful wine, and general merriment.

Weeks before the event was held, the team at Didriks got to work planning this stunning table setting, a spring-based theme that incorporated a several new products, loads of color, and an air of rustic whimsy that suited the space and the meal so perfectly.

Ginger Molasses Cookies

Spicy molasses cookies are my holiday favorite. Ginger molasses, gingersnaps, ginger chews, gingerbread – anything that’s loaded with the warm spices of winter is a total home run in my book. So it was only natural that I wanted to feature this outstanding Ginger Molasses Cookie recipe from the Flour Bakery Cookbook. When possible for this blog, we love to do things locally – so the fact that this recipe comes from a local chef makes these cookies even better.

While these cookies are served in all of the Flour bakery locations year-round, the feel most fitting for the holiday season. They’re thin but not dry or brittle, and instead are ultra-chewy, with the perfect balance of sweet and spice, and plenty of buttery goodness.
