A Red, Green and Pewter Holiday Table

No Comments 12 December 2012

It’s only once a year that we can break out the red and green check table linens, and adorn our table with a pewter-heavy setting – so we look forward to it with a sense of eagerness and enthusiasm reserved just for the occasion. The holidays are such a joyous time of year – spirits are lifted, there’s a special mood in the air, and decorations abound wherever you go.

We recently hosted a four-course holiday themed dinner, complete with the gorgeous red, green and pewter table you see below. We raided the Didriks store, and put together a stunning table with some of our favorite holiday pieces. We took dinnerware pieces from the Match Pewter Viviana collection, and used a variety of Match stemware and other table accents to finish the table. We also used festive Libeco Home linens to dress up the table even more.

Linzer cookies are a seasonal staple, especially during the holidays when decorative cookies are all the rage. Well we got a head start on holiday baking with these apricot-orange filled beauties, with jam courtesy of Bonnie from Bonnie’s Jams! She visited our new kitchen store local Root recently, and promised to drop off some jams to sample – which promptly arrived at our front desk just a few hours later!

Bonnie is a lovely woman, and she makes some really lovely jams. We sampled the apricot orange, as well as the raspberry lime, both of which had the perfect consistency and were wonderfully flavorful. I used the raspberry lime jam in another cookie recipe (coming this weekend!), and the apricot orange jam for these. I loved the flavor combination! Continue Reading

Last year, for Dinner 6, we endeavored to home cook our pre-Thanksgiving Thanksgiving dinner. Laura’s menu included a first course of Roasted Butternut Squash Soup, followed by a delicious roasted turkey (read about her brining technique here) with Apple and Onion Stuffing Muffins, Peas with Shallots and Pancetta, mashed potatoes, and roasted vegetables. Everything was a success. Continue Reading

Cocktail #8: Smashing Pumpkin

Smashing pumpkin cocktail in iittala Essence Tumbler

Looks fabulous you say? It does doesn’t it? The iittala Essence Tumbler with the bright orange peel of the tangerine garnish…sigh. The picture calls to me.

And the name is hard to resist. Reminds me of grade 8 when the alternative rock band fronted by the creepy, fetal looking Billy Corgan, who always made me think of a Tim Burton movie, and the Japanese rhythmic guitarist emoing in the back was topping the charts with their angst-y crooning. So cool. So 90′s. Continue Reading
