We love spring rolls and lo mein and pork fried rice and all the other classics of Sino-American takeout cuisine, but as self-professed dinnerware snobs, we hate a table set with cardboard takeout boxes, as emblematic as they might be. So, we put a dinner order in with House of Chang, which makes some of the best Kung Pao Tofu this side of the Charles, and pulled together some Pillivuyt Quartet dinnerware for a sharp-angled geometric setting to serve it in. Table setting for afternoon tea featuring Jars Ceramics, Pillivuyt, & Sabre Paris

Every plate, cup, fork, spoon, tray, linen, every decorative detail from the trimming and the flowers, every display and combination decision was made by Melissa Ragonese, our Visual Director and Table Stylist. This included the gift bags, the chair covers, even the name tag designs.

For this event the theme color was pink in recognition of the National Breast Cancer Foundation and its pink ribbon. Melissa managed to tread expertly between that fine line when using pink between saccharine and barbie-girlish to feminine and elegant. The pictures speak for themselves. Continue Reading

When I think brunch, I think friends and family and gluttony. You wake up late, shuffle into the bathroom for a long, luxurious shower, then mosey over to a cafe or a diner, or if you’re in Vegas, to Lynn Hotel, where people you love are there waiting for you while sipping mimosas. There, an efficient waitress serves you pouched eggs, which you can’t seem to master in your own kitchen but the cook has, and a stack of pancakes that is promptly drowned in syrup, a plate of just bacon, and endless refills of said cocktail. All this at the crack of noon.

Al Fresco Brunch Table Setting: Hello Yellow!

When putting together the table setting for the al fresco brunch, Melissa wanted to keep the color scheme as bright, summery, and yellow as possible. The ocean blues and various greens added chromatic counterpoints to the predominant and cheerful yellows in the place setting and the center piece.
